In October 1986, 40 years ago today, Clinton Heylin published his historic spoof ‘IT’ (International Times) underground article about Dylan staying on an Israeli kibbutz, getting fat eating apple pie and recording his new album ‘Holy Land’, with the tracks as Heylin listed as being “Kibbutz 49″, “The Orange Grove”, “Wailing Wall”, “Golan Heights”, “Tel Aviv Breakdown”, “The Rabbi’s Daughter”, “Kosher Blues”, “Sand in My Shoes”.

Clinton released his spoof article in the revived underground ‘IT’ Magazine in October 1986 and drew heavily upon the original spoof article that had been published in ‘IT’ in July 1973 and that is reproduced below.

It wasn’t until the 1996 Dylan convention at Piccadilly’s Sasha Hotel in Heylin’s home city of Manchester, that he revealed to me that the article was indeed a spoof, a parody and that none of it was true!

In remembrance of Heylin’s spoof article, which I must admit had me and many others hooked, I have released my latest and 61st album also named ‘Holy Land’, written, produced and with lyrics and vocals by me on YouTube HERE

Below is the original July 1973 IT Magazine article from which Clinton Heylin referenced for his October 1986 IT Magazine article.
