Buddy’s Gone lyrics
I was almost 3 years old to the day
When Buddy went away
My uncle gave me my 1st 45
It’s Raining In My Heart
Oh boy, how I wish he was still alive

He’d opened for Elvis 3 times in 55
Then he married Maria who’d always tried to be by his side
She was carrying his baby but couldn’t go with him on that tour
When she said goodbye to him at the door
She couldn’t know she wouldn’t see him any more, see him any more

The tour bus was cold and was slow
And he had places he needed to go
He hired a plane to go to the next gig fast
His next gig at Clear Lake would be his last, would be his last

He had English, Welsh and native Indian blood
He was briefly sent to us from above
He was the future, music’s shooting star
He was followed and adored by many near and far

Waylon took the bus, but Buddy took the plane
You’d never see each other again
Waylon wished he could take back those words that he said
But it’s too late, once you’re gone, you’re gone
And once you’re dead, you’re dead

The pilot couldn’t see when it started snowing
He couldn’t tell what was up or what was down
He couldn’t see where they were going
He flew the plane straight into the ground, into the ground

Buddy’s in the snow
Oh Buddy, why’d you have to go
Buddy is gone
But his spirit lives on and on, lives on and on

Maria heard the news on TV
The next day she lost his baby
The padre that married them, at his graveyard sang sad hymns
She couldn’t go to his grave, to this day she wears his ring
She wears his ring

Buddy inspired so many with his songs
He wrote so many songs, though his life wasn’t long
If he had lived, what would have been
Would we still have the same music scene

Buddy’s in the snow
Oh Buddy, why’d you have to go
Buddy is gone, Buddy is gone
But his spirit lives on and on, lives on and on

Buddy’s in the snow
Oh Buddy, why’d you have to go
Buddy is gone, Buddy is gone
But his spirit lives on and on
His spirit lives on and on
His spirit lives on and on
