The album’s 2nd track, I’m Not There continues with this bouncy reggae-ska backdrop to lyrics in the opening verse that start with maybe a guess or insight into the Royal Family’s reaction to the death of Lady Diana, in fact the next track, They Killed Her, Didn’t They? is dedicated to her life and death and it has had a memorable effect on both artists as it has on most of the world. In verse 5 the lines, And although I still don’t have respect for the law/we were friends one time down the track is a reference to the lyricists epic court battle against the Metropolitan Police when, as a decorated serving London police officer he took them to court and beat them because of their illegal racist treatment of him. The lines in verse 6, The visionaries gone blind/There’s no-one to show you the way/They’ll help you believe in it if you pay are explained as a footnote on the song’s page. I’m Not There Lyrics
I’m not there
I’m not there
I’m not there
I’m not there

The obituary read:
“Killed by an overdose of press”
Not that the mother in law could care less
“Got what they deserved” is what they said she said

I’m glad I’m out of it and far away
I never did regret leaving
If you catch me sleeping in the shade of the day
Can you check if I’m still breathing?

But let the world burn, what do I care?
I’m in another place, I’m not there
Let the world burn, what do I care?
I’m in another place, I’m not there
I’m not, I’m not there

Your complimentary words
Ring like Big Ben inside my brain
And although sometimes the truth is preferred
You can tell me one or two white lies again

I know I can do what I’ve done before
Everyone says I can’t come back
And although I still don’t have respect for the law
We were friends one time down the track

But let the world burn, what do I care?
I’m in another place, I’m not there
Let the world burn, what do I care?
I’m in another place, I’m not there
I’m not, I’m not there

You can see by the lines that cross my face
Time has taken its toil
But I sure ain’t ready for the hole, or the fire,
I still got passion, I still got desire
And though I might be far away,
I’m still competing in the human race

The visionaries gone blind
There’s no-one to show you the way
They’ll help you believe in it if you pay
Clowns are in re-hab re-programming their minds

I guess there’s a price to pay to be free
This rolling stone’s gathered some moss
I’m just a shadow of the man I used to be
Don’t ask me why it’s just because

But let the world burn, what do I care?
I’m in another place, I’m not there
Let the world burn, what do I care?
I’m in another place, I’m not there
I said let the world burn, what do I care?
I’m in another place, I’m not there
Let the world burn, what do I care?
I’m in another place, I’m not there
I’m not there, I’m not there
I’m not, I’m not there

Notes
In Verse 6 – The visionaries gone blind/There’s no-one to show you the way/They’ll help you believe in it if you pay refers to those supposed ‘Protest singers’ who we thought were genuine and who had our best interests at heart in pointing out a world gone wrong and full of wrongdoing, corruption and hate as they warned us not to follow leaders but the joke was on us, as we didn’t for a moment believe that they meant for us not to follow them or to take what they sang about as being the Gospel truth as these ‘visionaries’ became blinded by power and money and sold us out and then tried to deny their responsibilities by trying to dump their followers by performing new styles of music, Country, Gospel and bland country songs and even changing their religion, all designed to do just that.
They then dug the knife in deeper but dining with Presidents and then even performing songs for them, Presidents whose hands were covered in blood and who perhaps had just come from signing death warrants for those considered ‘subversives’ and ‘enemies of the State’!
They had even followed, watched and had a thick file on John Lennon – JL who dared to sing about a desire for world peace, yeah those advocating such peace could help bankrupt the powerful and wealthy armnaments industry that feeds the corrupt world including world leaders, yeah, ‘subversives’, right!
These ex-visonaries certainly still ‘make you pay’ to catch some of the messages they once peddaled and they still have the nerve to bring out these dust covered message-songs at concerts that they make you pay $100’s to attend, man, they have amassed so much money that fans have given to them over the years but it’s still not enough, they want more as they continue to purchase properties worldwide that they’ll never live in and they won’t give you anything for free, even stopping giving autographs as they know someone else can profit in selling them nor giving interviews as they might be asked the ‘wrong questions’ if they can’t approve of the questions beforehand.
There are still so many gullible fans who stand watching these persons perform on stage believing that they are ‘straight and true’, ha! At least ‘Mary Had A Little Lamb McCartney’ never pretended that he had the answers or that he would try to lead us to safety or that he could be considered by any stretch of the imagination to be a ‘subversive’!
