Chelsea On My Mind lyrics
I went out one morning to breathe in Chelsea’s air
When I saw her standing there, I just stood and stared
The artists that had stayed here had left their mark
The Chelsea was the conductor for their creative spark

Chelsea, oh Chelsea you’re on my mind
Chelsea, oh Chelsea you’re on my mind
Chelsea you’re on my mind

As I stood outside in the pouring rain
I thought about all those that had paid the price of fame
Some fought addiction and moved too fast
Nothing lasts forever, all things must pass

I’d flown 6,000 miles just to see
This place rooted in artistic history
Blowing through America’s conscience and soul
As meaningful to many as the Dead Sea Scrolls

Chelsea, oh Chelsea the place of dreams
Chelsea, oh Chelsea the place of dreams
Chelsea, the palace of dreams

They’d stripped Chelsea down to her bare bones
And left the spirits to guard their skeleton home
Then they made it into a Boutique Hotel
For the more rich upmarket clientele

They put the paintings back on the walls
And the ghosts returned to haunt the stairways and halls
They couldn’t check out of their eternal reservations
Spiritual prisoners trapped in this luxury accommodation

Once was the factory of creative thought it boasts
As I stand on the stairway I feel the breath of the squatter ghosts
So many are here, I can’t name them all
The most famous is Mary, who walks the 5th floor hall

Chelsea, oh Chelsea you’re on my mind
Chelsea, oh Chelsea you’re on my mind
Chelsea you’re on my mind

I came here thirsty and needed to know
Why The Chelsea became home to so many artistic souls?
Was it a refuge from the storm outside
Where they were safe from prying eyes?
Somewhere they were free from the chains of fame
But who is there to ask, only one or two remain?

Chelsea, oh Chelsea you’re on my mind
Chelsea, oh Chelsea you’re on my mind
Chelsea you’re on my mind
Chelsea you’re on my mind
