Sugar Daddy Blues was originally called ‘Bowling Alley Blues’ from ‘Writings and Drawings’ and appeared to contain 2 different sets of lyrics contained within ‘Bowling Alley Blues’. The 2nd part of the original lyrics relates to a phone operator and seems obviously different from the 1st part of the lyrics.
I took the 1st part of the lyrics and added my lyrics to them, attempting to convey the spirit of the original lyrics, thereby creating the song Sugar Daddy Blues with music composed and performed by Paul Odiase, we as ‘Les Paul’s’ (The Paul’s). We completed the 2nd part of the lyrics and the song is called Phone Operator Love.

Sugar Daddy Blues lyrics
I got your letter today
I’m glad you say you’re doing fine
I see you still got your habit
I’m so glad to hear it isn’t mine

I read your name in the papers again
Says you’re going out with Mister-so-and-so
So the news is out and you can’t pretend
In case you didn’t know

You didn’t want me
You said that I was poor
Says your sugar daddy feeds your need
Says ‘You’ll never want for more’
Says ‘You’ll never want for more’
Sugar daddy blues

Maybe tomorrow morning
You’ll wake up and find
That your sweet sugar daddy got fed up
And has gone and left you behind

Oh why wait for tomorrow
When you can find this out today?
Here read the paper, he’s gone back to his wife
All that glitters wasn’t gold, you’re wasting your life
You’re wasting your life

If you want babe, I’ll take you back
I’ll give you all I got to give
Just remove all that lipstick and make-up
And you can really start to live
Then you can really, really start to live, yeah

Sugar daddy blues
Sugar daddy blues
You got them Sugar daddy blues

Oh why wait for tomorrow
When you can find this out today?
Here read the paper, he’s gone back to his wife
All that glitters wasn’t gold, you’re wasting your time
All that glitters wasn’t gold, you’re wasting your life

Original ‘Bowling Alley Blues’ Lyrics
I got your letter today
And I’m glad to hear you’re doing fine
I see you still got your habit
And I’m so happy to hear it isn’t mine

I read your name in the paper again
Going out with Mr So and So
So the news is out and you can’t pretend
That you did not know

Maybe tomorrow morning
When you wake up and find
That your dear sweet daddy’s got fed up
And has left everything behind

Or why wait for tomorrow
When you can find this out today
So just be good and do like you should
And don’t spend your time throwing it away!

I love a switchboard operator
She’s the only one for me
I love a switchboard operator
She’s the only one I wanna see

Anytime I need some money
I just call her on her line
And she always tells me looky honey
Everything will soon be fine

I love a switchboard operator
And she’s the one that I desire
And of course I’m bound to see her later
And we’ll go dancing on the wire

On the wire
Sing something safe
Is it right to think about what one can do
Or is it right to think about what one has done

Lyrics Bob Dylan/Paul Robert Thomas
Music Paul Odiase
