To Be Completely Cool is a passionate, rock-infused tribute Rock song written to celebrate the 85th birthday of music legend Bob Dylan. The song balances personal reverence with a defense of Dylan’s artistic autonomy, capturing his journey from a young rule-breaker to a lifelong musical nomad.
Ultimately, the driving force of the song is the chorus, which directly asks Dylan how it feels to have successfully “broken all of the rules” and outlasted the critics to reach 85 while still actively performing live. It is a celebratory anthem of gratitude, closing with a heartfelt wish for the icon to keep playing until he is 105.

To Be Completely Cool lyrics
Every time I hear your words are still so clear
That call through all the years and brings tears to my eyes
They’d say that you sound like when broken cracked bells ring
You owe them nothing in my eyes
They’d say that you don’t care
’bout telling everyone to beware
But some don’t hear your voice
Some don’t make the right choice
About knowing at all what is and isn’t real

Come on reveal
How did it feel
To take on the fools
To take on the fools
To break all of the rules
To be completely cool
To be completely cool
How did it feel
To have made it through to eighty five
And to still be here with us playing live
And to still be here with us playing live

You’ve seen those visions and things, but hey even Caruso
Couldn’t hold a note for longer that you, no way
When you set out on that road you knew that’s where you would stay
And you don’t look back or answer those stiffs and queens who say
Come on show us which side are you really on
We followed you like light brighter than the sun
But you were never responsible
For their misplaced politics and heads half full
They stole from you what they needed to steal

Come on reveal
How did it feel
To take on the fools
To take on the fools
To break all of the rules
To be completely cool
To be completely cool
How did it feel
To have made it through to eighty five
And to still be here with us playing live
And to still be here with us playing live

You sang words I could see, that set my mind and soul on fire
I can never repay my debt to you
You stoked up the fire of my desire
You wouldn’t let other people make your thoughts for you
You opened your soul and showed us blood on your tracks
And scattered down the highway fistfuls of tacks
But just no-one could hope to follow you
Like oh so many had tried to do
At your feet they should be honoured to crawl and to kneel

Come on reveal
How did it feel
To take on the fools
To break all of the rules
To be completely cool
To be completely cool
How did it feel
To have made it through to eighty five
And to still be here with us playing live
And to still be here with us playing live

Pop stars are here today but soon they just all decay
Like honey, money just makes your ego swell
And makes you forget what it was you came here for
Unable to open any doors only the one to hell
But you are still here with us
From the North Country you told us your self to only trust
For all is nothing all just nothing and dust
So stay forever young, and spit out all those words so real

Come on reveal
How did it feel
To take on the fools
To break all of the rules
To be completely cool

To be completely cool
How did it feel
To have made it through to eighty five
And to still be here with us playing live
And to still be here with us playing live
Ah, stay with us till you’re a hundred and five
Come on and stay with us till you’re a hundred and five
