We, ‘Les Paul’s’ (The Paul’s) recently released our 21st album, The Chelsea Hotel#1 and our 22nd album The Chelsea Hotel#2 that contains original songs about famous artists that have stayed at, or have a strong connection to the iconic New York Chelsea Hotel. Our follow-up 23rd album, The Chelsea Hotel#3 contains more original songs about more famous artists that have stayed at, or have a strong connection to the iconic The Chelsea Hotel.

In recent years they’ve done massive renovations to the hotel and not much remains original except for the furniture and the paintings that Stanley took as payment for staying at the hotel from artists that adorn the walls. Even the lift that Leonard first met Janis in has been replaced. Staying at the New York Palace Hotel in tidy Manhattan where the likes of The Stones and Elton John stay with suited business people rushing here and there outside only stopping for their Starbucks coffee on their way to their offices, then going to where The Chelsea is located, complete with emancipated drug addicts hanging around the subway entrance was a bit of a shock. The desk clerk was very friendly and she too knew the history of the hotel and was happy and seemingly proud to talk about it.
The hotel was full to capacity as we wanted to stay our last night in New York there even though they charge Manhattan hotel room rates, but I doubt if I will return there so I am glad that I visited The Chelsea as I had read so much about it and about the previous famous guests, some of whom we have sang about in our series of The Chelsea Hotel albums at www.paullyrics.com – Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Andy Warhol, Leonard Cohen, Jim Morrison, Lou Reed, Brian Jones, Patti Smith, Marianne Faithful, Robbie Robertson, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Madonna, Iggy Pop, Edie Sedgwick, Dennis Hopper, Dylan Thomas, Thomas Wolfe and Bette Davis to name a few!
