Refugees is the 5th track from the album Holy Land, the 61st album of 10 original songs written, produced and with all lyrics and vocals by Paul Robert Thomas
*
“This powerful song exposes the brutal persecution, exploitation, and dehumanization of refugees. Trapped in disease-ridden camps and forced labor, they endure horrific violence, sexual assault, and mass murder. Driven by religious scapegoating, their oppressors erase their humanity, leaving them to cry out for relief from eternal, systemic pain”.

Refugees lyrics
They want to burn us
And to kill us
And to do as they please
As they’ve caged us
In poor houses so full of disease
And they laugh at our pain
As we quietly wash away the stains
And they scream “Just who are you
You’re just refugees”!

Well, they herd us
And they stamp us
They do as they please
And they starve us
And work us in their factories
And they laugh at our pain
As we dare to complain
And they scream “You’re just no-bodies
You’re just refugees”!

Though our blood is spilt
Their collective guilt
Is forgiven and forgotten
And defended and is protected
They deny and they hide
Like a killers urge
By their blessed church!
By their blessed church!

As they hint by their behaviour
That we killed their saviour
So we can never be free
We must pay for all eternity
Forgiveness is not on their lips
We must be their scapegoat for sacrifice
And that is the ultimate price
No matter what we deny or say
That our people for ever must pay

As they rob us
And they rape us
They do as they please
And they take us
They bury us under those trees
And they laugh at our pain
As we’re eaten by flames
And they scream “You can’t be free’’
“You’re just refugees”!

Just ashes in the wind
Just teardrops in the rain
Just embers in the flames
Just refugees in chains
Refugees in chains
Refugees in chains
Ah take away our pain
Take away our pain
Refugees in chains
Refugees in pain
Refugees in chains
Refugees in pain
All our life in pain
Take away our pain
Ah, take away our pain
