Last Train To Auschwitz is an original song from the album Influences
Written, produced and with lyrics and vocals by Paul Robert Thomas
*
This powerful song tells the tragic and moving life story of Anne Frank, tracing her journey from fleeing Nazi Germany in 1933 to the years spent hiding in the secret Annex in Amsterdam. It reflects on her iconic diary, her arrest in 1944, and the brutal final transport to Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen, where she and her sister Margot ultimately succumbed to typhus shortly before liberation.

Last Train To Auschwitz lyrics
Anne’s father brought her from Frankfurt in thirty three
To escape Hitler’s growing bloody tyranny
Their family had lived in Germany four hundred years or more
Anne’s father Otto had fought for Germany in the first world war
But as for all Jews, the writing was on the wall
Hitler intended to kill all Jews, whether old or small
They’d settled in Amsterdam, and thought they were safe from harm
But when the Nazi’s invaded Holland in nineteen forty, it raised the alarm
When the storm came, they found a place to shelter and hide
In the Annex shared by eight people that was only a few feet wide
The entrance was hidden by a bookcase at the top of the stairs
Only very few trusted people knew that they were there
For seven hundred and sixty one days they stayed hidden in that place
They knew they’d be caught if they went out and showed their face
Anne tried to write in the diary she called Kitty everyday
She first shared her secrets with Kitty on her thirteenth birthday
Anne was now fifteen, and on the first of August nineteen forty four
It would be the last time that she wrote, Anne wouldn’t write any more
On the fourth of August the Dutch police with a Nazi officer arrived
And moved the bookcase and arrested everyone hiding inside
They took Anne and threw her diary on the floor
It wouldn’t see the light of day for more than a year more
It would be given to Otto who had somehow survived the war
All of his family had been killed and were gone, they were no more
They loaded Anne and her sister Margot onto the last train to Auschwitz
They wanted to see her people lying dead in the pits
The last train to Auschwitz took her there
To that place full of so much death and despair
On that last train to Auschwitz
They put Anne onto the last train to Auschwitz
There was no air to breathe, it was so crowded with no space to sit
Inside cattle trucks rolling down the tracks
It was going one way and wouldn’t be coming back
People dying all around on that last train to Auschwitz
They moved Anne and Margot to Bergen-Belsen work camp
They stayed in a cold wet tent full of damp
Hunger and disease was around everywhere
Not many survived or got out alive from there
In all this time Anne and her sister Margot stayed together
In February nineteen forty five they would die from Typhus within days of each other
A few weeks later the liberating British army arrived
If only they could have hung on, if only they could have survived
I’ve been to Anne’s house and the Annex behind the bookcase
Where they hoped it would be their safe hiding place
When I learnt about Anne and that she was gone, I felt so sad
I think of her as the sister that I never had
The sister that I never had
Anne Frank is gone
But her spirit lives on
Anne Frank is gone
But her spirit lives on and on and on
