Smiling Through Clenched Teeth Lyrics
The wheels of rhyme go round and round
Though they’re full of rust
Trying hard not to fall down
We must do what we must

It’s hard to stay clean
When you’re crawling through the dirt
It’s hard to hope and dream
When inside you crave and hurt

Follow the river of tears
As we leave Babylon behind
Still travelling after all these years
I can’t believe I haven’t lost my mind

I still manage to smile through clenched teeth
Trying to cover up all the grief

Eric gave Lucy to Georgie
The phone rang off the hook
He had to pay for Patti
It’s all written in a book

He was the victim of society
He was different from you
A victim of his own notoriety
There was nothing he could do

She was the sheriff’s daughter
A big man to be feared
Like a lamb to the slaughter
I said he had a nice curly beard

All were smiling through clenched teeth
As they laid the blessed wreath

The millionaire junkie
Dressed up like a tramp
He’s trained his monkey
To lick his postage stamps

Just like a monk in a dirty habit
That’s been forced to get clean
In the headlights like a frightened rabbit
The driver looks so straight and mean

And Bobby’s still going strong
Taking all he can see
He says he’s not doing wrong
It’s what he’s always done traditionally

Everyone smiling through clenched teeth
Their insincerity’s beyond belief
Through clenched teeth
Lord, everyone smiling through clenched teeth
Their insincerity’s beyond belief

Nice pleasant performance and, surprisingly more comprehended lyric in the base of it in a contrary with a Part I of lyrical cycle “Scared of America”, include still missing last verse – “Where would we be without you America, God bless, America” …
The “common determinant” of the claimed Part II (do not get scared by a math term) is “Have a Nice Day!”
