From the Top of Primrose Hill Lyrics

I love the way the town looks from up there
I could spend hours just to sit and stare
I’ve been holding my tongue for too long
Biting my lip instead of singing this song

Mist hanging over the roofs
It’s gonna get as thick as pea soup
Soft church bells ring out through the air
Laughter drifting in from Hampstead Heath fair

Oh how I remember that view still
From the top of Primrose Hill
I felt I could touch the sky
That was in sixty-nine
My happiest time
I sit and contemplate why

Remember Concorde flying over my head
Like a Phoenix risen from the dead
Goldie the Eagle’s flown away
Gonna stay up in the tree night and day

The Jenny Wren chuffs along the canal
They tried to take the Princess in Pall Mall
There’s children flying kites in the breeze
Kicking dead leaves that fell from the trees

Oh how I remember that view still
From the top of Primrose Hill
I felt I could touch the sky
That was in sixty-nine
My happiest time
I sit and contemplate why

Rolling down the hill
Not one time but ten
Climbing to the top
And rolling down again
Running down the hill
Feeling I could fly
Never felt so free
Never felt so high

Oh how I remember that view still
From the top of Primrose Hill
I felt I could touch the sky
That was in sixty-nine
My happiest time
Oh how I remember that view still
From the top of Primrose Hill
I felt I could touch the sky

Oh how I remember that view still
From the top of Primrose Hill
I felt I could touch the sky
That was in sixty-nine
My happiest time

Oh how I remember that view still
From the top of Primrose Hill
I felt I could touch the sky

Oh how I remember that view still
From the top of Primrose Hill
I felt I could touch the sky

what a beautiful poem. It’s very significant to me as I used to play up there as a child in the 50’s. Of course the skyline was very different.
